YOGAD

With gratitude to the National Lottery Community Fund, we are able to pilot a new programme which will help us to develop a new qualification in Yoga for Mental Health Conditions. The classes are free of charge to participants who have submitted the screening form and have been identified as meeting the eligibility requirements.

ABOUT THE RESEARCH STUDY:

The aims of the study are to assess the acceptability of a new yoga intervention and the study methods used in this uncontrolled pilot study, to explore the feasibility of running a randomised controlled trial and to estimate the effect of yoga on the anxiety levels and quality of life for participants with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) NHS Overview of GAD

Most of the available courses are based at physical sites in Yorkshire, funded by the Yorkshire branch of the National Lottery Community Fund. One course will be conducted from York as an ONLINE CLASS via Zoom. The courses are taught by qualified teachers/yoga therapists with specialist training and experience in teaching yoga to adults with mental health conditions.

YOGA COURSE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Participants need to be available to attend the first and last session when pre and post intervention questionnaires will be completed with the research team present and at least 6 of the 10 yoga classes on offer during weeks 2-11. In relation to online classes, factors that might make someone unable to participate include no internet access or insufficient space at home to be able to do the physical practices with the webcam/mic 6-8 ft away so that the teacher can see each student's practice in gallery view.
